ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s government on Thursday announced public holiday on November 9 to observe Allama Iqbal Day.

Every year, Pakistan celebrated Iqbal Day on Nov 9 to honour the national poet and philosopher Allama Iqbal.

According to notification, issued by the Cabinet Division, Pakistan will observe national holiday on Saturday across the country to mark the 147th birth anniversary of great poet philosopher, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

All the government offices, institutions, and schools will remain closed on Saturday, read the notification.

People often feel confused about this holiday because it was suspended in 2015 by then the federal government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. However, it was reinstated in 2022.

How do people celebrate Iqbal Day?

Iqbal Day is celebrated throughout Pakistan in honour of the national poet, Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Educational institutions typically organise special ceremonies to commemorate the occasion.

During these events, students deliver speeches in both English and Urdu and recite Iqbal’s poetry, reflecting on his contributions to literature and the nation.
