The federal government has raised the ‘Diyat’ amount by Rs1.346 million for the fiscal year 2024-25, due to an increase in the silver rate. The Ministry of Finance issued a notification stating that the new Diyat amount is set at Rs8,103,955, equivalent to the value of 30,630 grams of silver.
According to the notification, the increase in the Diyat amount follows the guidelines outlined in subsection (2) of Section 323 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The federal government has adjusted the amount based on the current value of silver.

For the previous fiscal year 2023-24, the Diyat amount stood at Rs6,757,902. The adjustment for 2024-25 reflects the rising prices of silver, which serve as the basis for calculating Diyat, a form of compensation paid under Islamic law in cases of accidental death or injury.
The new amount will be applicable throughout the current financial year. This increase aims to ensure that compensation remains in line with the prevailing silver rates.
