ISLAMABAD: P Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that girls’ education is a major challenge of the present time in the Muslim world.
Addressing the opening ceremony of a 2-day international conference on ‘Girls’ Education in Muslim Societies, Challenges and Opportunities’ in Islamabad, the premier stressed addressing the issue and ensuring girls access to education.
He said that the Muslim world needs to work on a large scale to deal with this challenge. He said that every society can make education possible if the challenges in the sector are addressed. He said that girls’ access to education should be made possible in poor countries.
He said that Islam also emphasises on education for all including women. Hosting the international conference is an honour for Pakistan. Malala Yousafzai’s participation in the conference is a source of pride. We are extremely happy about her arrival. Malala is a symbol of courage and determination.

In his address, the premier paid tribute to Benazir Bhutto, the first female Prime Minister in the Islamic world. He also praised Maryam Nawaz, the first female Chief Minister of Pakistan. He mentioned how women in Pakistan, like Arfa Karim, continue to prove their abilities in fields like IT.
A 2-day international conference on the topic of ‘Girls’ Education in Muslim Societies, Challenges and Opportunities’ was inaugurated in Islamabad.
Ministers from 47 countries and representatives of various institutions including the OIC secretary general are participating in the conference. The ‘Islamabad Declaration’ will be signed at the end of the conference tomorrow.
