GILGIT: The 78th Independence Day of Gilgit-Baltistan is being celebrated today across the region with various rallies and events.
The main ceremony took place in Gilgit, where Chief Minister Gulbar Khan served as the chief guest, accompanied by civil and military officials and a large crowd of citizens.
A flag hoisting ceremony marked the occasion, while celebrations extended to Skardu, Ghanche, Shigar, Kharmang, Astore, Diamer, Ghizer, Hunza, and Nagar districts. These events showcase the significance of the day and honored the national heroes who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Gilgit-Baltistan from the Kashmiri Dogra raj.

On November 1, 1947, the GB Scouts freed the region from Dogra rule and raised the flag of independence, later joining Pakistan unconditionally.
To commemorate the occasion, the regional government declared a public holiday on November 1. Buildings were adorned with lights, banners, and national flags, and portraits of national heroes were displayed along roads, streets, homes, and offices.
