In Sindh, a new agricultural revolution is emerging with the cultivation of jackfruit (kathal), a nutritious crop offering economic benefits to farmers and landowners.
Originating from India and celebrated as the national fruit of Bangladesh, jackfruit is also found in the Philippines, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
In addition, now cultivated in Tando Jam and Tando Allahyar, it is transforming agriculture in the region.

Moreover, Jackfruit, with its yellowish-brown hexagonal exterior, is rich in calcium, potassium, fiber, vitamins A and C, and proteins. A mature tree can produce around 200 fruits per year, with older trees yielding up to 500, making it a highly profitable crop.

Experts highlight that Sindh’s favorable climate is ideal for jackfruit production, requiring minimal water, which is beneficial for water-scarce regions. A horticulturist notes that the fruit can weigh up to 22 kilograms.
