ISLAMABAD: The federal government has successfully shifted 100 public schools in Islamabad to solar power, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy.
The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training completed the solarisation project in collaboration with the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC).
The initiative, which was announced in August 2024, includes backup battery systems to ensure uninterrupted power supply in schools in Islamabad.
Federal Secretary for Education Mohiuddin Wani called the achievement a reflection of the government’s commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and innovation.
He said the installation of solar panels would not only reduce carbon emissions but also provide schools with a reliable and eco-friendly energy source.
As 100 schools were shifted under this year’s project, Secretary Education Mohiuddin Wani noted that plans are in place to switch the remaining federal educational institutions to solar electricity during the upcoming fiscal year.
Maryam Nawaz, the chief minister of Punjab, made a number of significant decisions last week regarding the province’s industrial, solar energy, and agricultural sectors. In addition to the 10,000 tractors previously allotted, 2,000 more superseders will be made available to farmers at reduced prices by February 28.
The chief minister made the decision to accelerate and broaden the program in accordance with her objective to extend the free solar energy project, with an emphasis on offering free solar power to the citizens of Punjab.
