Türkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during his two day visit to Pakistan, addressed a press conference on Thursday reaffirming Türkiye’s unconditional support to Pakistan.

“Within the framework of this visit, we have signed a total of 24 agreements and MoUs (memoranda of understanding) in the fields of trade, water resources, agriculture, wind energy, culture, family, municipal services, IT technology and social services, along with science, banking, education, defence, and health,” stated the Turkish President.

The Turkish president stated that he and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had discussed not only bilateral relations but regional and global affairs as well.

“We are still behind our target of $5 billion trade volume. Undoubtedly, we all have a role in realising our potential. In this regard, expanding the scope of our existing preferential trade agreement and evolving it into a free trade agreement will contribute to a stable and balanced trade volumes between our two countries,” said the Turkish President.

The ally country’s president also highlighted the importance of advanced freight transportation methods between the two countries especially the road and rail networks. “It will be in the interest of our entire region if we implement holistic policies such as re-activating Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul freight train line,” added President Erdogan.

President Erdogan also expressed his gratitude to PM Shehbaz for being the first leader to visit Türkiye after the earthquake while reiterating his country’s unconditional support to Pakistan in fight against terrorism.

Solidarity with Kashmir

Furthermore, the ally country’s president expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people and sought the resolution of the issue as per United Nations resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz also addressed the gathering: “I assure you that I will work closely with you and our teams will work closely to convert these MoUs into action.”

“Turkiye always stood by Pakistan for the just cause of Kashmir. You always maintained your stance loud and clear. Similarly, Pakistan fully supported the cause of Northern Cyprus and stood by Turkiye in this cause in an unwavering fashion,” PM Shehbaz added.
