The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) has intesified its monitoring of construction activities in response to the increasing smog and air pollution in Lahore to combat the issue.
According to Imran Hamid, the Director General (DG) of the EPD, the fugitive dust generated from construction sites is a significant contributor to air pollution in the city.
The implementation of construction Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) has become essential to effectively control this fugitive dust. The department emphasizes that adhering to these guidelines will help mitigate the environmental impact of construction activities.
Furthermore, teams assigned to monitor dengue surveillance will also inspect construction sites as part of their duties. Imran Hamid said that these surveillance squads will check not only for dengue but also ensure that construction SOPs are being followed.
In an effort to combat environmental pollution, DG Imran Hamid has issued a notification aimed at controlling pollution levels in Lahore. The department’s proactive approach underscores the urgency of addressing the city’s air quality issues while balancing developmental needs.
EPD Punjab has also announced a ban on heavy vehicle entry into Lahore on Fridays and Sundays to tackle increasing smog and air pollution. This action, aimed at reducing pollution levels in the city, follows a previous restriction on schooloperations during peak smog periods.
