The Higher Education Regulatory Authority (HERA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has suspended new admissions to the MBBS programme at Jinnah Medical College (JMC), citing regulatory non-compliance.
An official statement revealed that JMC had violated several provisions under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Registration and Functioning of Private Educational Institutions Ordinance 2001 and HERA Regulations 2006.

Following a performance evaluation by experts from Khyber Medical University and Hayatabad Medical Complex, the college was found to be below the required standards to operate the MBBS programme.
Despite warnings issued in June 2023, no corrective actions were taken. According to Section 23 of the HERA Ordinance, the college faces possible revocation of its registration. However, to protect current students, HERA has only suspended new admissions until the institution addresses the issues.
The college has also failed to settle Rs19.5 million in outstanding salaries for senior teaching staff, a commitment made in December 2023 but unfulfilled since December 2019.
