ISLAMABAD: Ruling Party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Bushra Anjum said that a decision regarding the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, currently incarcerated in the United States, is expected before January 20.
Senator Bushra Butt, leading a high-level delegation, met with Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and US officials.
She said they met with Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and officials from the US Congress and the State Department for her release.
She said that the talks with US officials for the release of Aafia Siddiqui have been positive.
She said that she met with Aafia Siddiqui for about three hours, and it is hoped that the US government will also decide on the release of Dr. Aafia before January 20.
A high-level delegation of the Senate of Pakistan, tasked with advancing efforts to secure the early release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, was led by Senator Bushra Anjum Butt.
The delegation visit comes as part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s sustained diplomatic initiative, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to obtain Dr Siddiqui’s release on compassionate grounds.
