LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set an ambitious target to eliminate encroachments across the province within a week and has tasked Deputy Commissioners (DCs) with a comprehensive crackdown on corruption on Wednesday.

The CM highlighted the need for a revamped system to ensure better governance and public services.

CM Maryam Nawaz reviewed the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the Sargodha Division, including cleanliness, health, education, price control, and monitoring of outsourced schools. The meeting also addressed various issues, such as violations of the Marriage Act, encroachments, cleanliness, and the condition of parks. A detailed briefing was provided by the DCs of Sargodha, Khushab, Bhakkar, and Mianwali.

The CM directed the establishment of urban forests on state land in every city and ordered the enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy toward violations of the Marriage Act. Additionally, she called for the success of the “No to Plastic” campaign across Punjab.

One of the key directives was the implementation of strict cleanliness measures. CM Maryam Nawaz instructed DCs to ensure the cleanliness of streets and neighborhoods while addressing public complaints promptly. The government will also enforce mandatory collars for pet dogs across the province, with fines and penalties for violators.

In a bid to improve road safety, the CM ordered the creation of designated bike lanes separated by fences or small walls, following the Chinese model. She also highlighted the importance of bikers wearing helmets and ensuring that vehicles have functioning back lights and indicators. Zebra crossings will be constructed in front of schools, and strict action will be taken against school vans failing to meet fitness standards.

CM Maryam Nawaz expressed her concerns over stagnant water on roads causing inconvenience to citizens and worshippers. She directed the removal of single-line cart markets and instructed that carts should only be placed at approved locations. Furthermore, she ordered the improvement of bus stands, ensuring clean drinking water, fans, and comfortable seating for passengers.
