GILGIT: A Brazilian tourist tragically died while paragliding in the Shigar district of Gilgit Baltistan on Thursday.
Shigar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Waliullah Falahi informed Dawn that the tourist, identified as Raineri Rodrigo Chaddad, embarked on his paragliding adventure from a mountain in Askoli Shigar. Chaddad did not have a permit for the activity and died instantly after the fall.

DC Falahi stated that action would be taken against the managing director of the tour operator who permitted Chaddad to paraglide without the necessary permit. An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted shortly.
While adventure sports in Pakistan are generally considered safe, the region’s weather can be unpredictable. In the past month alone, three Japanese climbers have been declared dead while descending one of the highest mountains in northern Pakistan.
