WEBDESK: A boat carrying 65 migrants, including Pakistani citizens, has capsized near the Libyan coast, close to the port of Marsa Dila, northwest of Zawiya city.
According to the Pakistani Foreign Office, the country’s embassy in Libya has dispatched a team to the site to gather more details about the affected Pakistani passengers. The embassy is also coordinating with local authorities to provide assistance.
A team from the Pakistani embassy in Tripoli visited Zawiya Hospital, where rescued passengers are receiving medical care.
The embassy is also working with Libyan officials to identify those who lost their lives.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has activated its crisis management unit to monitor the situation and provide necessary support.
Meanwhile, Libyan authorities have discovered two mass graves in the southeastern desert, containing bodies of migrants who were attempting to reach Europe.
One grave, found on a farm in Kufra city, contained 19 bodies, some of whom had been shot. Another grave, located at a human smuggling hideout during a police raid, had at least 30 bodies, with reports suggesting up to 70 people may have been buried there.
Authorities are continuing their search for more victims.
