BANNU: The ongoing unrest in Bannu has led to two fatalities and 27 injuries following a stampede triggered by sudden gunfire during a peace march at the Bannu Sports Complex, according to security sources.
The violence escalated as thousands of residents staged a sit-in protest, demanding peace and opposing the current unrest in the area.
The protest, marked by a significant turnout, saw demonstrators converge at the Sports Complex for a peaceful sit-in. In response to the unrest, the district observed a shutdown of government offices, and a wheel-jam strike was announced in solidarity with the protesters. The crowd chanted slogans condemning the turmoil.

The sources indicate that those injured in the stampede were quickly transported to local hospitals, where they are receiving treatment. Meanwhile, the spokesperson DHQ Hospital in Bannu confirmed that the bodies of the deceased, who succumbed to gunshot wounds, were brought to the hospital.
It is pertinent to note that on July 15, ten militants attacked the Bannu Cantonment. Security forces responded with a counterstrike, deploying an explosives-laden vehicle against the cantonment’s wall, resulting in the deaths of ten militants and eight security personnel.
