Balochistan receives rain, snowfall

QUETTA: QUETTA: An emergency has been imposed on the Chaman-Quetta-Karachi highway after the first snowfall of the current winter season hit various areas including Ziarat valley of the province on Sunday.

The Met Office reported snowfall and light rain in Ziarat, Kan Mehtarzai, Kozhak, Khanozai, Lakk Pass, Muslim Bagh, and Mastung.

Ziarat Valley received three inches of snow, while heavy rains in Chaman and its surroundings have flooded low-lying areas.

An emergency has been imposed on the N-25 Chaman-Quetta-Karachi highway.

Snowfall occurred in the upper areas of Chaman, Qila Abdullah and Pishin, and traffic jams at many places on N-50.

Transportation to Balochistan, Punjab and KP is suspended because of a power breakdown in most areas of northern Balochistan.

Meanwhile, cold winds have also started blowing in Karachi, citizens are enjoying the weather by wearing sweaters and jackets.

Earlier, Sardar Sarfraz, Chief Meteorologist of Karachi’s PMD, said that a new cold wave entered Pakistan through Balochistan on January 18 will not bring any rain to Karachi.

He added that after the cold front moves towards the upper regions of the country, colder winds could then affect Karachi.
The impact of this new western system, bringing cold and dry winds, is anticipated towards the end of January, around January 24th.
