A government official in Sindh is reportedly under scrutiny for allegedly demanding a luxury apartment in Dubai’s Burj Khalifa in exchange for granting a tender.
In this regard, the chinese company approached National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The complaint, submitted by China Road & Bridge Corporation and Hubei Shuizong Water Resources and Hydropower Construction Co. Ltd. (CRBC-HBSZ).
It said that Sindh Barrages Improvement Project (SBIP) Director Ghulam Mohiyuddin Mughal requested a 3,600-square-foot apartment in Burj Khalifa. He demanded this as a commission for granting them the contract to restore and upgrade the Sukkur Barrage.
The company has urged NAB Karachi to investigate the matter or else the company will have to stop the project.
Later, the official came under fire after being accused of alleged bribe.
CRBC said that this all is fake. It said that allegations was forged, using fake signatures and letterheads, and stated that no such demands were made.
SBIP is the implementation body of the project that aims to extend the life of the 90-year-old barrage by another 30 years.
The project includes rehabilitation and modularisation of the structure, mechanical components, development of the system, improvement of surveillance and monitoring system, dredging, desilting of left and right canals etc.
Sukkur Barrage is one of the most important and strategic structures of the Indus Basin Irrigation System.
