LAHORE: A report exposing alleged irregularities worth billions of rupees during the former Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar’s tenure has been submitted to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Provincial Assembly.

According to the report, alleged financial irregularities were reported in the construction of the Muzaffargarh-Dera Ghazi Khan road during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) tenure from 2018–2022.

The report said that the Muzaffargarh-Dera Ghazi Khan road was constructed from 2017 to 2019 and was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister and former Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

In a report, it was alleged that steel was purchased from an unregistered firm for the project, resulting in a tax loss of more than Rs 130 million. The report also said that more than Rs730 million was paid to the Land Acquisition Collector for the acquisition of land and shifting of utility services.

The report further added that the government funds were spent illegally in DG Khan government schools, without any official approval for spending.

The report revealed that in 2020-21, the District Education Authority spent Rs 99 million for the purchase of furniture and other items, but the furniture and other necessities out of Rs 99 million could not be verified at any level.

According to the report, the District Authority in Dera Ghazi Khan failed to provide any response regarding the financial irregularities.
