As of 1:30 PM, the air quality in RYK has improved slightly, now standing at 292.

Dense fog continues to blanket the plains of Sindh and Punjab, with severe fog causing the M-5 motorway to close in Multan.

The motorway was also shut from Khanewal, Multan, and Uch Sharif to Rahim Yar Khan due to poor visibility.

According to the motorway police spokesperson, the M-1 motorway from Rashkai to Swabi was also closed for traffic because of dense fog, as of Tuesday morning.

Never-ending smog in Pakistan

Earlier, Karachi was ranked among the most polluted cities in the world.

Recently, Pakistan’s first ever ‘smog tower‘ was installed in Lahore in order to reduce air pollution and smog.

Smog choked Punjab for weeks in late 2024, sickening nearly 2 million people and shrouding vast swathes of the province in a toxic haze.

The dangerous smog is a byproduct of large numbers of vehicles, construction and industrial work as well as burning crops at the start of the winter wheat-planting season, according to experts.
