The air quality levels in Lahore and Karachi have reached hazardous levels, making them the second and fifth most polluted cities in the world, respectively.
As of this morning, Lahore recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 280, while Karachi’s AQI stood at 203. Multan has emerged as the most polluted city in Pakistan, with an alarming AQI of 406.
Meanwhile, some areas in Punjab have experienced a slight improvement in smog conditions. In response, the Punjab government has announced the reopening of schools in all districts except Lahore and Multan Divisions, starting today. Schools in the province are to commence no earlier than 8:45 AM.
Additionally, hotels and food outlets across Punjab are now permitted to remain open until 10 PM, as part of the eased restrictions.
The Environment Protection and Climate Change Department will install anti-smog guns or fog cannons in highly smoggy areas to provide temporary relief in Punjab. The anti-smog guns would easily cleanse the small particles that pollute the air.
