KURRAM: The aid convoy for Parachinar set to depart today has been suspended after armed men opened fire on the convoy of Deputy Commissioner Kurram Javed Ullah Mehsud in Lower Kurram on Saturday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Advisor Barrister Saif confirmed the development and said that miscreants attacked the DC convey to sabotage peace in the area. He said that the aid convoy has been stopped after the unfortunate incident.

Barrister Saif was in Kohat to dispatch the convoy for its journey to Parachinar Valley.

The DC convoy was attacked in Bagan area of Lower Kurram in which DC and two other FC personnel were injured.

The district administration said in a statement that he got minor injuries in the shooting and was taken to the Alizai hospital in Lower Kurram

The incident occurred days after rival tribes in the Lower Kurram agreed to restore peace and end the 86-day-long road blockade of the restive region.

Condemning the attack, KP Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry said that the peace committees were responsible for ensuring the protection of the convoy.

After the peace deal, the committees, comprising locals, tribal elders, and political leaders representing all sects and communities, are tasked with maintaining harmony in the area.

A convoy of 17 trucks carrying food and other necessities is expected to leave for the Kurram district today.

Earlier today, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Advisor Barrister Saif, who arrived in Kohat last night, left for Chapri of the Kurram to dispatch the first convey for the restive Kurram after the peace deal.

Barrister Saif had reached Kohat late last night on the special instructions of KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. He will see off the first convoy for Kurram.

Under the peace deal reached after several rounds of talks, the rival tribes agreed to surrender their weapons to the state within 15 days and dismantle local bunkers within a month.
