LAHORE: A student named Rana Ammar Akhter from the Sociology department at Punjab University (PU) was allegedly killed in a shooting incident within the campus premises.
The victim was rushed to Sheikh Zayed Hospital but unfortunately passed away upon reaching the hospital.
The student allegedly attacked the PU admin block and started vandalism including ransacking flower pots and doors. Students have completely blocked the Underpass Campus and Main Canal Road.
The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore has directed the Divisional Superintendent of Police (SP) to reach the location immediately. Traffic police have set up diversions at Bhikwal Chowk, Uchharan Underpass, Barkat Market, and Shah Di Khoi.
PU spokesperson said that the incident did not take place within the boundaries of Punjab University and claimed the student organization was spreading rumours and false news.
The spokesperson of Sheikh Zaid Hospital said three bullets hit the 22-year-old victim in the chest, stomach, and leg. The doctors said they tried to save him but he could not be saved.
Citizens have been advised not to use Main Canal Road until the protest is over.
