PESHAWAR: At least 12 security personnel were martyred and six terrorists were killed fighting between security forces and terrorists in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media affairs wing of the Pakistan Army, terrorists attacked a combined security check post of the Pakistan Army and FC in Mali Khel area of Bannu district.

The ISPR said that a suicide bomber blew himself up near a check post in the Mali Khan, located in the restive Jani Khel, and started firing on security personnel. The terrorist hit the wall of the check post with explosive-laden vehicle damaging part of the building, said the ISPR.

“The attempt to enter the post was effectively thwarted by own troops, which forced the khwarij [militants] to ram an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the post,” the statement said.

The security forces reacted promptly and thwarted the terrorists’ attempt to enter the check post, killing forces killed at least six Khwarij.

“The suicide blast led to the collapse of a portion of the perimeter wall and damaged the adjoining infrastructure, resulting in Shahadat of twelve brave sons of soil that include ten Soldiers of the security forces and two soldiers of Frontier Constabulary,” it added.

A day earlier, terrorists had kidnapped seven policemen from a check post in the Bannu district. Lather, they were “safely” recovered on Tuesday evening.
