PESHAWAR: At least 12 persons were killed in a road accident in Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday. the fatal accident occurred when a trailer collided with a passenger coach.

According to local police, the fatal road accident in Karak involving a 22-wheeler trailer and a passenger coach happened on the Indus Highway at Amberi Kalle Chowk.

At least 25 other people were also injured in the accident. The conditions of several injured people stated to be critical.

The police and rescue authorities rushed to the site and shifted the injured persons to a hospital. Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur expressed sorrow over the death of nine passengers in the accident.

A senior official of the district said that the incident occurred late in the afternoon. The trailer crushed the coach under its weight.

The fatal collision triggered a chain reaction, affecting several other vehicles on the highway.

“The trailer’s failure to stop caused this devastating chain of events,” said DC Karak. “The coach was completely crushed, leading to massive loss of life.”

The district administration issued a red alert at local hospitals including DHQ.

Rescue teams have pulled survivors from the wreckage, and the injured are being rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Karak.
