RAWALPINDI: The police have arrested 11 individuals for shooting dead a pregnant donkey in Rawalpindi, Punjab. The incident occurred on Monday amidst a heated dispute over tree-cutting in the Mukhyal Chakri area.
According to sources, the donkey, which was three months pregnant, belonged to a local farmer whose identity remains undisclosed. The complaint was lodged by the donkey’s owner at the Chakri police station, leading to the arrests.
The incident is part of a troubling pattern of animal cruelty in the country. On June 15, a feudal lord in Sanghar, along with six employees, brutally tortured a camel and severed its leg with a sharp tool. The 8-month-old camel calf was subsequently transferred to Karachi for treatment at CDRS Benji, a local non-governmental organization (NGO). Just days later, on June 29, another horrifying case emerged in Umerkot, Sindh, where a female camel was found dead with all four limbs amputated.
