Pakistan is expected to reveal its squads for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia next week, with insiders hinting that Mohammad Rizwan is a top contender for captaincy.
While the national selection committee has reportedly thrown its support behind Rizwan to lead the side, the final decision will rest with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who will consult with selectors and other key officials before making an official announcement.
If confirmed, Rizwan’s appointment would mark a significant leadership shift, as the wicketkeeper-batsman has shown remarkable consistency both behind the stumps and with the bat in recent international fixtures.
Sources say the PCB is carefully weighing all options ahead of a crucial series that will not only test the team’s strength but also help shape Pakistan’s strategy for future white-ball competitions.
Hasnain’s comeback on cards
Fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain, who last represented Pakistan in a One-Day International (ODI) in 2023, is poised for a return. Hasnain’s stellar performances in the recent Champions Cup and President’s Cup have caught the attention of selectors, positioning him as a strong candidate for the squad.

His raw pace and ability to perform under pressure could make him a valuable asset in Australia’s fast-paced conditions.
Other players being considered include all-rounder Aamir Jamal and wicketkeeper-batsman Haseebullah, both of whom have impressed selectors with their potential and are in the running for spots in Pakistan’s squad.
Fixtures set for showdown against Australia
The white-ball series will see both nations competing in three ODIs, starting at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 4. The second match will take place at Adelaide Oval on November 8, with the third ODI scheduled for November 10 at Perth Stadium.
Following the conclusion of the ODI series, Pakistan and Australia will shift their focus to a three-match T20 series from November 14 to November 18. The T20 matches will kick off at Brisbane’s iconic Gabba, followed by contests at Sydney Cricket Ground (November 16) and Bellerive Oval in Hobart (November 18).
Meanwhile, Australia has already named its 14-member squad for the series, with Pat Cummins returning to captain the side. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head have been ruled out due to paternity leave, making room for Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short to join as openers.
