Pakistan to supply JF-17 Thunder Block III jets to Iraq

In a major development, Pakistan and Iraq have signed a defense agreement in Baghdad to enhance defense cooperation. As part of this agreement, Pakistan will be supplying twelve MFI-Mushaq trainer aircraft and twelve JF-17 Thunder Block III fighter jets to the Iraqi Air Force.

According to The Nation, citing credible sources in the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), the countries reached a  $1.8 billion agreement during a meeting between PAF Chief Air Chief Marshall Zaheer Ahmed Babar and his counterpart in Iraqi Ministry of defense.

The Iraqi delegation in the talks was represented by Lt Gen Ahmed Dawood, Secretary General of the Iraqi Defense Ministry, and Lt Gen Shahab Jahid Ali, also from the Iraqi Defense Ministry.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan would be supplying the Mushaq Trainer aircrafts to Iraq for the second time. Following the successful induction of 12 Mushaq aircrafts in 2023, the Iraqi defense ministry has placed an order for twelve more.

In the first phase, Pakistan would be supplying 12 more Mushaq trainer aircraft to Iraq, after which an equal number of JF-17 Thunder Block III  fighter jets would also be supplied. The Nation further reported that both the countries are working on the technical details of the deal.

Iraq would join the list of Nigeria and Myanmar to get the JF-17 Thunder aircraft from Pakistan. Furthermore, Pakistan has also finalised an agreement with Azerbaijan to supply these aircrafts.
