Pakistan expresses solidarity with Bangladesh

On Wednesday, Pakistan showed its solidarity with the people of Bangladesh and expressed hope for a “peaceful and swift return to normalcy” following the deadly protests that led to the end of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s tenure two days ago.

This statement comes as a caretaker government is anticipated to be established under the leadership of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, following a request from student protest leaders.

The movement that led to Hasina’s removal stemmed from protests against public sector job quotas for the families of veterans from Bangladesh’s 1971 independence war, which critics argue were used to secure jobs for supporters of the ruling Awami League party.
