In Thursday’s National Assembly session, the Ministry of Health shared alarming statistics related to mental health, revealing that over 80 million Pakistanis are grappling with mental health issues.

The report highlighted that while psychiatric treatment facilities are available in all major hospitals and mental health departments are operational in 126 medical colleges, the scale of the problem remains a serious concern.

In addition, Rai Hasan Nawaz questioned the suspension of health card services, originally introduced by the previous PTI government, suggesting that political reasons may have played a role in halting these services, which were aimed at improving public access to healthcare.

In response, Federal Minister Jam Kamal clarified that no services were discontinued due to political reasons.

Furthermore, he explained that the health card services were temporarily suspended in Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan due to irregularities found in the system, and efforts are underway to resume them following discussions with State Life Insurance.
