A confrontation between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters and the police erupted at Ghanta Ghar Chowk in Faisalabad today, resulting in the detention of more than 500 individuals.
PTI had organised protests across various cities in Punjab, including Faisalabad, demanding the release of the party’s founder.
Despite the Punjab government’s enforcement of Section 144, which prohibits large gatherings, PTI workers, led by local provincial assembly members, managed to gather at Ghanta Ghar Chowk. Authorities had blocked entry points with trucks and barricades, but tensions flared as the protestors defied the restrictions.

Moreover, clashes ensued when police attempted to disperse the crowd. PTI supporters pelted stones at the police, prompting law enforcement to respond with tear gas to control the situation.
In addition to detaining over 500 supporters, the police also arrested nine PTI provincial assembly members. Legal proceedings are underway against those detained for violating Section 144.
Meanwhile, mobile and internet services were suspended in Mianwali as part of broader efforts to prevent unrest.
