Following the government’s tax-heavy budget to meet IMF requirements, prices of basic food items have risen. As of July 1, 2024, sugar, cooking oil, and ghee prices have increased.
A 50-kilogram bag of sugar now costs Rs6,950, up by Rs250. Ghee prices have surged by Rs300, and cooking oil has risen by Rs40 per kilogram.
The price of Dal Moong has increased by Rs60 per kilogram, now costing Rs340.

Furthermore, prices for flour, dried milk, packaged milk, and other essentials have gone up due to the new budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
On the other hand, the flour mills association has protested against the newly imposed withholding tax. Flour mills across various cities have shut down, with owners demanding the government retract the tax decision.
