No Muslim minister in Modi’s Cabinet for the first time since independence

India’s vast population includes a significant number of Muslims, yet Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s newly-elected government has deliberately excluded them. Not a single Muslim representative was present at the grand oath-taking ceremony in New Delhi on Sunday.

Modi was sworn in for his third term as India’s prime minister, overseeing a government of 30 federal ministers and 41 state ministers, none of whom are Muslim. This exclusion appears intentional, reflecting the outcome of the recent general elections where no Muslims were elected from Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Moreover, Modi’s grip on power has weakened; unlike his previous decisive victories, this time he failed to secure a clear majority. He was compelled to seek support from allies within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to maintain his position, underscoring the dwindling popularity and increasing opposition to his administration.
