National High and Motorways Police on Sunday shut the Lahore-Multan (M3) motorway due to hazardous smog.
Moreover, NH&MP announced the temporary closure of the M4 highway from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem on Sunday, citing low visibility due to wind and smog. An NH&MP spokesperson said the closure was to protect public safety.
Commuters are advised to plan their journeys between 10am and 6pm, when visibility is best, and to use headlights when driving.
The spokesman also warned against speeding and theft and told motorists to avoid unnecessary journeys. In case of emergency, motorists are advised to contact NH&MP on 130.
In Lahore, authorities have temporarily closed Motorway M-3 from Lahore to Darkhana due to dense fog and worsening smog levels.
According to the motorway spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed, the decision to shut down the motorway is part of an ongoing effort to manage travel risks during adverse weather conditions. Drivers are being advised to monitor updates and follow alternative routes, as the motorway will remain closed until conditions improve.
Several sections of motorways across Punjab were also closed on Saturday due to thick smog. The M-2 motorway from Lahore to Kot Sarwar, and the Lahore-Sialkot motorway all closed due to heavy fog and smog, according to sources.
