NDMA ,warns of heavy rains and floods across Pakistan

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a forecast predicting heavy rains and potential floods in various parts of Pakistan.

The warning emphasises the need for vigilance and preventive measures to avoid loss of life and property.

The NDMA has identified northeastern Punjab, the Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southern Sindh, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan as areas likely to receive substantial rainfall. This could result in urban flooding and higher river water levels, especially if India releases water from its dams.

The forecast also warns of possible urban flood scenarios and increased river water flow. Additionally, the NDMA has cautioned about the risk of landslides in the mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir due to ongoing rainfall. These landslides could pose significant hazards to residents and travelers in these regions.

Furthermore, the NDMA has advised the public to exercise extreme caution, avoid crossing floodwaters, and refrain from unnecessary travel, especially tourists.
