By ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning for potential floods and landslides, as varying intensities of rainfall are forecast across different parts of Pakistan during the first week of July.
According to the NDMA, moderate to heavy rains are expected to increase water flows in streams and rivers, potentially causing flash flooding in low-lying areas. Monsoon rains may lead to torrents in regions such as Dera Ismail Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and the Suleman and Kirthar mountain ranges. Additionally, urban flooding is a possibility in major cities.
The NDMA also highlighted the risk of landslides in mountainous regions including Murree, Galiyat, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The combination of rising temperatures and rainfall in GB and KP could trigger glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) events in vulnerable valleys.

Further concerns include the potential for dust, wind, thunderstorms, and heavy showers to damage infrastructure such as electrical poles, solar panels, hoardings, trees, and buildings under construction.
Citizens, particularly travellers and tourists, are urged to monitor weather forecasts and flood conditions before embarking on any journeys.
