Pakistani mountaineer Naila Kiani reached a remarkable milestone on Saturday by becoming the first Pakistani woman to conquer 11 peaks surpassing 8,000 meters. This achievement was solidified as she successfully summited Makalu, the world’s fifth-highest peak at 8,485 meters, located in Nepal.
Kiani reached the peak around 8:50 am (PST). In her statement, she expressed deep appreciation for the support and prayers of her fellow countrymen. She also extended gratitude to Sherpa Gelgen Dai from Imagine Nepal, whose unwavering support played a pivotal role in her journey to success.
Prior to this remarkable feat, Naila Kiani had already made significant strides in mountaineering. She previously became the first Pakistani woman to conquer all of Pakistan’s 8,000-meter peaks. Additionally, she holds the distinction of being the sole Pakistani woman to summit 10 eight-thousanders.
However, Kiani’s achievements extend beyond the realm of mountaineering. Despite being an aerospace engineer and a mother of two, she pursued higher education at the University of London. Furthermore, she has held a prominent position as an associate vice president at a multinational bank based in the UK.
