ISLAMABAD: The National Highways and Motorways Police on Thursday closed the M2 Motorway from Islamabad to Sheikhupura to due heavy fog and smog.
According to Motorway Police Spokesman Syed Imran Ahmed M3 is closed from Lahore to Darkhana, Motorway M5 is closed from Sher Shah Multan to Sukkur, while Lahore Sialkot Motorway will also remain closed due to low visibility.
Similarly, Motorway M4, from Lahore to Darkhana has also been closed.
According to Motorway Police Spokesman Syed Imran Ahmed, the motorways are closed to ensure public safety and safe travel.
The message said that road users should prefer to travel during the maximum hours of the day, with 10am to 6pm being the best travel times during foggy weather.
Road users should use front and rear fog lights, avoid unnecessary travel, avoid speeding and keep an adequate distance from the vehicle in front.
Earlier today at the morning, th Air Quality Index (AQI) of Lahore continued to remain in the ‘hazardous’ category with AQI 688.
According to a report by IQAir, which tracks real-time data of air quality worldwide, the air quality index (AQI) in Lahore reached 688 around 8:15am at morning, making it the top-ranked city on the list of the most polluted city globally followed by Delhi with AQI 502.
Yesterday, the Lahore AQI was recorded at 425 at same time.
At the same time, the concentration of PM2.5 pollutants—fine particulate matter that poses significant health risks—was recorded at 420 micrograms per cubic meter in Lahore, which is over 84 times higher than the World Health Organization’s (WHO) annual air quality guideline value.
