Former Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Miftah Ismail has announced forming a “different kind” of political party.

The former finance minister announced his party in an op-ed published in The News. However, he didn’t reveal the name of his political party.

For the last few months, there have been speculations about Miftah Ismail forming a new political party. Now, the former PML-N leader has confirmed that he will be launching his party soon.

Reports also suggest that ex-prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former PPP Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokar are also expected to join the party.

“We are forming a different kind of party with women and young people as part of the leadership team,” Miftah Ismail wrote. The ex-finance czar added that they are forming a party based on ideas and not personalities that has professionals of integrity, competence and intellectual honesty.

Miftah Ismail further wrote that his party will refrain from targeting any specific province or ethnic group, and it will steer away from the dynastic or family politics prevalent among its counterparts.

The ex-finance minister stated that the driving force behind the formation of his new party was the need to “radically restructure our governance.”  He criticised Pakistan’s current political leaders as “out-of-touch and short-sighted” in terms of Pakistan’s future.
