During a recent podcast, Simon Milner, Meta’s Vice President of Public Policy for the Asia Pacific region, discussed Meta’s initiatives in Pakistan, including efforts to support innovation, the creator economy, and advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).
According to him, Meta is launching a major project to boost Pakistan’s global connectivity with a new 45,000-km undersea cable. This cable will connect Karachi to 33 countries across Africa and the Middle East.

Milner explained that the project, expected to be completed by 2025, will enhance internet speed, lower latency, and improve overall connectivity. This upgrade will benefit Pakistani users and content creators by providing faster and more reliable access to Meta’s services like Facebook, Instagram, and the recently introduced Meta AI.
He also highlighted Meta’s commitment to advancing AI in Pakistan through the Llama AI initiative.
He noted the success of a recent AI competition and emphasized that Pakistan is among the first countries to benefit from this initiative, aimed at empowering local developers and fostering technological growth.
