The imposition of an 18% General Sales Tax (GST) on a range of medicines has caused a sharp increase in prices, compelling patients to purchase medications in smaller quantities, often enough for just a day or two, rather than stocking up for weeks.
According to pharmacy owners in Lahore, essential products like skin treatments, multivitamins, calcium supplements, milk powder, sugar strips, and herbal remedies are now subject to the 18% GST.

Previously, patients would buy larger supplies, but the recent price hike has forced many to adjust their purchasing habits.
Noor Mehr, President of the Drug Lawyers Forum, criticized the GST on herbal, homeopathic medicines, vitamins, and food supplements, labeling it as unjust.
He urged the government to reconsider, arguing that under the Drug Act, medicines should not be subject to taxation.
