May 9 rally case: court grants interim bail to Barrister Gohar, Omar Ayub and others

ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court granted interim bail to several leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party on Friday, relating to their involvement in a rally held on May 9.

The bail request, filed preemptively to forestall potential arrests, arose from legal proceedings initiated against the protest. Present at the court were Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Omar Ayub Khan, Aamir Mughal, and Shoaib Shaheen, prominent PTI figures, accompanied by their legal representatives.

Judicial Magistrate Arshad Mehmood Jasra granted interim bail to the aforementioned individuals, each required to post a bond of Rs 5,500. The court issued notices to all concerned parties and adjourned the hearing until May 21, soliciting arguments from both sides.

This development unfolded subsequent to PTI’s declaration of nationwide rallies on May 9, one of which transpired in Islamabad’s G-9 area, featuring Barrister Gohar, Aamir Mughal, and other PTI leaders.

During the rally, clashes purportedly erupted between PTI supporters and law enforcement. Authorities reportedly sought to apprehend Barrister Gohar, yet PTI activists shielded him, thwarting his arrest.
