ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) on Friday unveiled the master plan for the eco-restoration of the Margalla Viewpoint. The project has been unanimously approved by the 5th Implementation Committee, IWMD said in a statement.

According to the IWMB spokesperson, the master plan was prepared by architect Imrana Tiwana in collaboration with Architect DB Studio based in Islamabad.

“The plan envisions a green space that not only restores the natural beauty of the Margalla Hills but also provides a unique recreational space for residents and tourists,” the IWMB statement added.

Key Features of the Master Plan include promenades and walking Trails, a reflecting pool and Eco-display area, an open-air amphitheater, a play area for children, sitting areas for elders, a prayer area, a visitor information centre, office spaces, and parking areas.

The wildlife board confirmed that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the mega project will be submitted to the Environment Protection Agency for approval.

State run-APP, citing an IWMB spokesperson, reported that the removal of debris from the demolished Monal and other restaurants has been completed, and the clearance and rewilding of the area will commence with the onset of the next rains.

He said WWF Pakistan will initiate fundraising efforts for the project, with work expected to begin soon.
