Another sexist comment has made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur as he referred Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz as “KP’s bahu (daughter-in-law)”.
The chief minister said that Maryam Nawaz is considered a daughter-in-law of KP due to her marriage to Captain Safdar.
It is pertinent to mention that Safdar originally hails from KP.
Gandapur criticises Maryam Nawaz on ‘mishandling’ Punjab College case
The KP Chief Minister was of the view that Punjab government should prioritise addressing their issues rather than always blaming his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
About Punjab College alleged rape case, he said that “everybody knows who is the owner of the college” yet the blame is on PTI.
He further claimed that Maryam Nawaz didn’t legitimately win her seats in Punjab and challenged her to show her Form 45 as proof.
This isn’t the first time Gandapur has made a sexist comment, what’s even more surprising is that his party seems unperturbed by his behavior. Due to this, he has often faced intense criticism on social media from public.
In 2020, he infamously talked about Maryam Nawaz’s physical features: “She [Maryam Nawaz] is beautiful, but she spent millions on her surgeries from the taxpayers’ money.”
In a country where gender equality remains a distant dream, it is need of the hour that all politicial leaders should make a positive example by promoting inclusivity and gender sensitivity.
