Marvel Rivals, the highly anticipated action game, is set to launch its first season, referred to as “Season 0,” on December 6, with an expanded roster of 33 playable characters.
The news was revealed by the game’s creative director, Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen, who provided further insight into the game’s launch plans in a new promotional video.
Season 0 to feature 33 characters and 9 maps
Season 0, dubbed Dooms’ Rise, will run for one month, concluding with all 33 characters made available for play. In addition to the already revealed characters, such as Hulk and Adam Warlock, fans can expect six new, yet-to-be-announced characters. Marvel Rivals’ social media account will continue to reveal a new character each day leading up to launch, with the final six expected to be unveiled soon.

Alongside the character additions, Season 0 will also introduce nine maps to the game. While this first season is shorter than future seasons, lasting just one month, subsequent seasons will follow a three-month cycle, adding even more heroes, maps, and game modes.
Future seasons
Looking ahead, Season 1 is expected to launch in early January 2025, with additional characters set to join the roster. Guangguang, however, has kept details about the Season 1 character lineup under wraps, adding an element of mystery ahead of the new year.
As for the game’s monetisation, Marvel Rivals will feature a battle pass for each season, offering players the chance to unlock cosmetics. Cosmetics will also be available for purchase in the store, but according to Guangguang, the game will not include any pay-to-win elements, ensuring that all players can compete on equal footing.
Marvel Rivals will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC when it launches on December 6, marking a new chapter for Marvel fans and gaming enthusiasts alike.
