Many players to face demotion, lose central contracts after poor performance in World Cup

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to reassess central contracts following the national team’s disappointing early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024, sources revealed to Geo News on Saturday.

During late-night discussions led by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and other board officials, it was indicated that players with underwhelming performances are likely to face demotions in the first phase of contract revisions. Additionally, several players may lose their central contracts entirely, according to the sources.

This decision follows Pakistan’s elimination from the ongoing tournament, failing to advance to the Super Eight stage after losing their initial matches against the new-entrant United States and arch-rivals India.

With the match between the US and Ireland abandoned due to rain on Friday, the co-hosts secured a crucial point, effectively ending Pakistan’s chances of progressing in the tournament.
