The Maldives government has decided to ban Israeli citizens from entering the country, according to a statement from the President’s office.
This decision was announced by Homeland Security and Technology Minister Ali Ihusan after a cabinet meeting led by President Mohamed Muizzu.
“President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, following a Cabinet recommendation, has resolved to impose a ban on Israeli passports,” the President’s office stated. Minister Ihusan confirmed the decision at a news conference, explaining that the government is working to amend the law to stop Israeli citizens from entering the Maldives.
The island nation also appointed a special envoy to assess Palestinian needs and announced a fundraising campaign to assist Palestinians, in cooperation with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
This move follows recent Israeli strikes in Gaza’s southern city of Rafah, which killed more than 30 Palestinians.
