Nobel laureate and global advocate for girls’ education Malala Yousafzai has announced an additional $300,000 in emergency funding for Palestinian children affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The funds, provided by the Malala Fund, will support three key charities—Kinder USA, Inara, and the Rawa Fund—that are assisting children caught in the war-torn region.

In a statement on social media, Yousafzai expressed her deep concern for the children in Gaza, who have endured months of relentless bombings since the Israeli military offensive began in October last year. This latest donation marks her second contribution to the humanitarian cause, following an initial $300,000 donation last year to support relief efforts for children in Gaza.

Malala calls for ceasefire amid ongoing crisis

“For nearly a year now, I have been thinking every day about the Palestinian children in Gaza suffering under relentless Israeli bombings,” Yousafzai said in her statement. “They have experienced abject horror and trauma as their homes and schools have been destroyed and their friends and family members killed.”

She reiterated her call for a ceasefire, urging world leaders to take action. “I stand with millions of people around the world demanding an immediate and lasting ceasefire. And today, I am directing another $300,000 in emergency funding from Malala Fund to three charities helping Palestinian children: Kinder USA, Inara, and Rawa Fund.”

Support for critical humanitarian services

Malala Yousafzai outlined how the funding will support essential services for children and families in Gaza. “This funding will help humanitarian and social justice organisations doing heroic work: providing food, clean water, and medical care to kids; helping parents with essential services to care for their children; supporting traumatised children with psychosocial and educational support; and building tents for displaced families.”

The latest contribution builds on her initial $300,000 emergency grant announced in October 2023, which supported similar efforts by Anera, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), and UNRWA USA. Yousafzai concluded her statement by encouraging others to learn more about these organisations’ critical work and to continue advocating for an end to the violence.
