In 2022, he thrilled fans with two OTT releases: the Tamannaah Bhatia-starrer Babli Bouncer and the gripping drama thriller India Lockdown. Now, the award-winning director-producer is back in the spotlight with a new project that’s sure to generate buzz. According to Bollywood Hungama, Bhandarkar is busy prepping for the sequel to his much-loved 2008 film Fashion.
A source close to the development shared, “Madhur Bhandarkar is working on the script for the sequel. It will reflect the current times and highlight changes in the fashion industry. The first part was released 16 years ago, and since then, the industry has transformed significantly. Madhur aims to shed light on these changes while telling a compelling story in his signature style.”
The insider also revealed, “Bhandarkar is already in discussions with a studio eager to produce Fashion 2. Additionally, an OTT platform has expressed interest in turning the sequel into a series.”
This leaves Bhandarkar with a tough decision: should Fashion 2 be a film or a web series? The source added, “He is expected to make a decision in a couple of weeks. Once that’s settled, he’ll begin the process of casting actors.”

Fashion featured powerhouse performances from Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut, who both won National Awards for their roles as Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. The film followed Meghna Mathur (Priyanka Chopra), a small-town girl who rose to become a supermodel, only to face a dramatic downfall. Kangana Ranaut played Shonali Gujral, a top model whose life spiraled out of control. The cast also included Mugdha Godse, Arjan Bajwa, Samir Soni, Arbaaz Khan, and Chitrashi Rawat. Released during Diwali in 2008, Fashion was celebrated for its writing, execution, performances, and the soulful music score by Salim-Sulaiman.
