Aliya Fakhri, who is the sister of Bollywood star Nargis Fakhri, has been arrested in New York City on charges of killing her ex-boyfriend and his female friend.
Edward Jacobs, 35, and Anastasia Ettienne, 33, who used to be with Jacobs, were asleep in a two-story basement when Aliya is accused of starting a fire there.
India says that the sisters haven’t talked to each other in more than twenty years. In an interesting twist, Nargis is said to have learned about her sister’s arrest from the news.

Aliya and Nargis’ mother, Marie Fakhri, has denied the allegations against her daughter. Speaking to the media, she expressed disbelief, stating, “I don’t think she would be killing someone. She was a person who was caring for everybody. She tried to help everybody,” multiple news outlets reported.
According to reports, Marie also revealed that Aliya struggled with opioid addiction following a dental mishap, which she believes could have influenced her behaviour.
Aliya’s ex-boyfriend, was a plumber and a dad of three. Although they had broken up about a year ago, Aliya is said to have kept looking for him.
She is being charged with murder in the first degree and other crimes. She has been refused bail, and if she is found guilty, she could get a life sentence. The next hearing is on December 9.
Nargis Fakhri has not commented on the situation yet.
Aliya and Nargis were born to Mohammed Fakhri, a Pakistani, and Marie Fakhri, a Czech national. However, the couple got divorced when the both sisters were quite young.
