Colombian music icon Shakira has confirmed her return to the animated world of Zootopia, revealing that she will reprise her role as the singing pop star Gazelle in the highly anticipated sequel, Zootopia 2. The news was announced on Friday during Pixar’s panel at the D23 Brazil expo, with Shakira sharing a surprise video for her fans.

Shakira teases new look and dance moves for Gazelle

In the video, Shakira shared her excitement with fans, saying, “I’m here to announce some big news. Are you ready? Gazelle is returning to ‘Zootopia 2’.” She went on to tease that her character would have a “new look, a new song and, of course, new dance moves,” adding, “Just wait until you see what she and her tiger dancers have been working on. I know you’re going to love it.”

Gazelle, the Thomson’s gazelle turned pop star, first appeared in the original Zootopia movie, which was released in 2016. Shakira’s announcement also included a glimpse of her character performing alongside her tiger backup dancers, a memorable moment from the first film.

Zootopia 2 is scheduled for release on November 26, 2025, and will feature the return of key characters, including Ginnifer Goodwin as the rabbit police officer Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman as the crafty fox Nick Wilde.

The sequel will also introduce new characters, such as Oscar-winning actor Ke Huy Quan, who will voice Gary, a slippery snake pursued by Judy and Nick. Comedian Fortune Feimster will join the cast as Nibbles, a beaver who encounters the law.
