MUMBAI: Pushpa 2 has shattered box office records by amassing approximately INR257 crore worldwide, which is equivalent to $31 million, on the opening day.

The huge box-office number has set a new record for the largest global debut for an Indian film.

The film earned INR190 crore (USD 22.5 million) in India alone, while its international gross stood at around $7.90 million (INR67 crore), including $4.40 million from Wednesday’s previews.

Pushpa 2 not released in Canada and Australia?

Despite missing out on a major opening for the Hindi version in two key markets, Canada and Australia, Pushpa 2 performed strongly. The film’s international opening fell short by about $500K, with Canada postponing its release until Friday and Australia’s screenings limited to smaller venues.

The film’s top international market was the United States, where it grossed $4.15 million on opening day, including $3.10 million from previews.

Pushpa 2, however, couldn’t beat Kalki 2898 AD, which earned $4.93 million on its opening day. Trade analysts attribute the comparatively slower performance to the film’s lengthy runtime of over 200 minutes and December release.

In the Middle East, Pushpa 2 earned $1.55 million, the third-highest opening for a Telugu film after Baahubali 2 and Saaho. Australia recorded its third-highest opening for an Indian film, grossing AUD 660K, while the United Kingdom earned GBP 485K.

Pushpa 2: The Rule, produced by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings, stars Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, whose on-screen chemistry was widely praised. The film also features Fahadh Faasil, Jagapathi Babu, and others. The first film, Pushpa: The Rise, released in 2021, was a huge blockbuster.
